One of the biggest headaches for intelligence officers is integrity of data, particularly address data which, when being input by say 2,000 or so different officers working from different locations, each using their own style and notation, can be both inconsistent and inaccurate.

Any inaccuracy introduced into address records can negatively impact intelligence operations and reports - by introducing re-work, providing inaccurate information about a potential threat or worse still failing to reveal a potential threat at all.

A lack of standardisation can also make searching difficult, with significant amount of time being wasted trying to ‘guess’ the format for a street name or a post code that has been recorded in the system, or the local name used by the officer who originally entered it.
