Search Storage and Updating

Search Updating

Although not essential for some data fields, for others, it is vital that new data is assimilated instantly, making it available in real-time for use in the field. Many search technologies, however, can take hours or even days to assimilate new data, a delay which can have far-reaching consequences. For time-critical data, then, “live” search is essential.

With Memex search technology, new data is available and fully searchable from the moment it is entered into a database, with no indexing phase required. Memex is the only search technology capable of being deployed as a live database technology backend for ongoing systems.

Search Storage

The implications of using traditional search technologies are farther reaching than the delays in making data live. With traditional technologies, more space is required than for the original data, in order to build an index. Further space is required for the full set of indexes needed just to equal Memex’s search extensive capabilities such as “case-sensitive” search. This makes searching prohibitively expensive in terms of hardware for many organizations with hundreds of gigabytes or terabytes of data, since they need to triple their storage capacity to get search engine capability.

With the Memex search solution, however, this storage space is not required, since data is compressed relative to its original form. This makes Memex an extremely affordable option when it comes to hardware for storing the indexes required for its powerful search capability.
