Memex RISS Compliance Enables Agencies to Share Select Intelligence Data with Other Regional Information-Sharing System Members

Federally Funded RISS Program Supports Regional Law Enforcement Efforts in Combating Criminal Activities.

VIENNA, Va. – May 5, 2009 – Memex, Inc., the leading worldwide provider of intelligence management, data integration, search and analysis solutions, today announced development of Memex RISS-Connect, which allows Memex customers to share select intelligence data with other RISS (Regional Information Sharing Systems) law enforcement agencies.

The RISS program is an innovative, national initiative designed to support local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement efforts to combat organized criminal activity, drug trafficking and terrorism. It enables member agencies to search and share intelligence data over the secure RISSNET intranet.

In consultation with the RISS Office of Information Technology, Memex developed RISS-Connect, which complies with RISS Data Exchange Specifications.

“Our compliance with the RISS program gives our law enforcement customers the tools they need to share information about known or suspected criminals and cross-jurisdictional criminal activity,” said Steve Serrao, Director of Product Management, Americas Region, for Memex. “Memex helps agencies turn information and intelligence into knowledge by combining its intelligent search, information access and data integration technologies.”

With Memex RISS-Connect, Memex agency customers can share actual data over RISSNET without wasting time re-keying data. They also can share data in real-time, eliminating wait times for data to be re-keyed or for batch upload processes to run. In addition, they can share select records, and exchange as much of each record as necessary.

Agencies don’t have to use the RISS intelligence database only as a pointer index for data either. They can choose to share more data and reduce the burden of fielding calls from other agencies, if desired.

“In a post-9/11 world, sharing data between law enforcement officials provides the ability to detect patterns,” Serrao said. “The more information that police officers have to discern patterns of activity, the more likely they are to interdict, prevent and solve crimes that occur in their jurisdictions.”

The RISS program operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Australia, Canada, and England. RISS is the collective effort of six regional centers. While the RISS centers operate independently and are tailored to support the unique needs of the region served, they also operate as a collective body to address national criminal justice issues.
